    Description

    1953 ten coin specimen set, issued to celebrate the coronation of Her Majesty the Queen. Set contains: 1953 Crown, Halfcrown, Florin, English Shilling, Scottish Shilling, Sixpence, Threepence, Penny, Halfpenny and Farthing. Obverses: Mary Gillick’s portrait of Elizabeth II, introduced in this year. Laureate head, facing right. Excepting the Crown which features an equestrian portrait by Edgar Fuller. Reverses: standard for the year, varied with denomination in legend. Composition: standard base metal composition for period: cupronickel, nickel-brass and bronze. Finish: proof. Packaging: original Royal Mint case with silk lining and leather exterior with gold lettering. These sets were issued in limited numbers to mark the coronation of Elizabeth II. They featured proof or ‘specimen’ examples of the regular circulation coins of her first issue as well as a commemorative Crown with a unique portrait.
