Description
Coinage of Great Britain and Northern Ireland 1977The coins include 1/2, 1, 2, 5, 10, and 50 pence. A large special "coin" shows Queen Elizabeth on horseback, the words Elizabeth II D.S.G.REG.F.D and the year 1977. Another "coin"-copper colored- reads Elizabeth R 1977 with a crown. The reverse shows a crown, coat of arms and the words Royal Mint.
On the edge of British coins, the letters D.G.REG.F.D. always appear after the Queen's name. The letters stand for the Latin words Del Gratia Regina Fidei Defensor, which means 'By the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith'.
Ordered from the Royal Mint while staying in Belfast, Northern Ireland and carried back to the States. Never used. Never taken out of case except to take photos. Bought to give to our kids when they were grown. Put away for safe keeping and literally just found. while downsizing. Family is grown, grandkids are grown and none of them are interested in collecting coins. So selling as I don't want to hold on to them for great-grandkids.
