Description
Hikibune (boat pulling) Hira Natsume 曳舟蒔絵 平棗. This is a most interesting natsume with a wonderful surprise under the lid. This natsume reminds us of the many people who work to contribute to our daily lives, making many things easier for us. The motif comes from the people who pulled boats along the Hikifunegawa (river) in the Edo period as part of the Tokugawa period construction to bring clean drinking water to the old city of Tokyo. Many famous blockprints show the towpath and the boats in this series of waterways. Comes in original kiribako (wood box). Dimensions: ~3 1/4" D x 2 1/4" H. Condition: Excellent, like new.
