    Description

An antique, Edo period, circa 1860 Japanese papier-mache black lacquer tea caddy box, metal lined inside hinged lid, with key, circa 1860.
The matte black lacquer having handpainted and maki-e decorations on all four sides and the lid. Depicting highly detailed fish, birds and flowers, some are raised so that it almost looks like a trompe l'oeuil technique.
Has another removeable interior lacquered lid as well.
Condition: Small chip back right corner. Hairline crack on the front lid (not very noticeable). Some scratches to the matte lacquer. Small chip to the edge of the base.
Otherwise, good condition for age. Displays beautifully.
Size: body is approximately 3 2/3" square and 4 1/3" tall. Lid is approximately 4 1/3" square.
    Thanks for looking!
