Description:
An exquisite O-NATSUM tea caddy:
- made by a top notch Makie artist MEJIRO Shunpan (目代春帆) in Wajima
- using only the best quality materials such as gold, mother of pearl and Japanese lacquer
MEJIRO was born in Wajima (a mecca of Japanese lacquerware) in 1923 and worked there through his life.
The given name Shunpan (目代春帆) is his pseudonym name as an artist.
He
signed
at the left-hand-side of the original box (photo #12).
The design is "Wild Gooses Flying over Reeds" (芦ニ雁 in Japanese), so drawn at the right-hand-side of the box.
Wild Gooses and Reeds are expressed by Makie technique and inlaid mother of pearl.
The background is coated by dark brown Japanese lacquer, which is
known as Tamenuri (溜塗).
It is in excellent condition. No chips or cracks at all.
White (shining) parts on photographs are reflection of light, i.e. no flaw or blemish.
