The Cavern opened in January 1957. This photo of the entrance, with its steps descending into the
literal
cavern was taken that same year, probably in conjunction with the opening. You can see the table at the bottom of the steps where admission fees were paid.
There are many photos of The Beatles performing on stage, but not many of the entrance to the club itself. And images of the club before The Beatles started performing there are extremely rare.
