Kabazaiku   - Cherry Bark Work -
Kakunodate city, Akita Prefecture, is the only place in Japan where cherry bark is used to make the traditional Kabazaiku, cherry bark work.
Kabazaiku can be seen in the imperial property of Shosoin, and the beauty of its work is praised in Manyoshu and The Tale of Genji.
It is popular for celebrations such as Year Celebration, Birthday and Wedding.
*Manyoshu is the oldest extant collection of Japanese poetry compiled in the late 8th century.
*The Tale of Genji is a classic work of Japanese literature written in the early 11th century.
